Gradual of Last Sunday After Pentecost

Psalm 43:8-9

Thou hast delivered us, O Lord, from them that afflict us: and hast put them to shame that hate us. V. In God we will glory all the day: and in Thy name we will give praise for ever.

Haydock

Ver. 8.: Ears. Yet will not hear, (Calmet) or who are miraculously healed. (Haydock) — It seems rather to mean idolatrous nations, (ver. 9.; Calmet) or rebellious Jews. (Forerius) (Houbigant)

Ver. 9.: Former. The pagans were little acquainted with antiquity. Such researches lead to the knowledge of the true religion. (Haydock) — Truth, if they can produce any true prophecy.
