Psalm 118:121-122, 128

I have done judgement and justice, O Lord, give me not up to them that slander me: I was directed to all Thy commandments, I have hated all wicked ways.

Verse 121. Justice. This he declares out of zeal, praying to be freed from calumniators, (W.) particularly the devil. Apoc. xii. 9. The Babylonians probably laid falsehoods to the charge of the Jews, in order to oppress them, as they frequently accused Daniel.

Verse 122. Uphold. Heb. “answer for,” (S. Jer.) as a bondsman. — Unto good. Thus the law is insinuated, though it is not here expressed. Bert. — In attacking the devil, who is so experienced, we must take God with us, or we shall surely be overcome. S. Aug. tr. 4. in Joan.
